curasan AG: first-half results confirm strategic focus

Kleinostheim, August 12, 2004 – curasan AG (WKN 549 453) today announced its financial results for the first six months ended June 30, 2004. In terms of year-on-year comparisons, it should be noted that the Pharmaceuticals business unit (Anti-Infectives and AIEP products) was sold by the company in October 2003 and that curasan is now focusing on the area of Regenerative Medicine. In the first six months of 2004, revenues generated by continuing operations rose by 28%, up from EUR 3.2 million to EUR 4.1 million. In the same period a year ago, total revenue, including that generated within the Pharmaceuticals unit, had amounted to EUR 8.8 million. The EBIT for the remaining business unit improved from EUR -2,173 thousand to EUR -1,364 thousand. As a result of corporate streamlining, the total headcount stood at 79 at the end of the quarter, compared with 104.

Owing to the introduction of a new distribution partner in the US (cf. announcement of July 7, 2004) and the planned market rollout of a new generation of Cerasorb®, the company experienced a revenue displacement from the second to the third quarter, thus prompting slower growth in Q2/2004 compared with the preceding quarter.

Since July 1, 2004, curasan AG has been working in close cooperation with Gebhard & Co. Wertpapierhandelsbank AG, Munich , as a designated sponsor; this is in addition to the company's business relations with Concord Effekten AG, Frankfurt .
