The Skeletal System

An adult person has 208 bones which amount to 12-20% of the body weight. Like all organs in the body, bone grows and replaces itself continually. In fact, the bones in your body are completely replaced about every 7 years. Bone is the one organ that can heal completely without scarring.

Bone is a very specialized kind of connective tissue. It consists of around 30 % organic components which give it elasticity, and 70 % inorganic components which give it stability.
