beta TCP comparison
Physical stability
The large primary particle size of Cerasorb® virtually eliminates the potential for eleciting macrophage activity. However, other commercially β-TCP has particles smaller than about 7 microns, which are known to elicit macrophage activity. Active phagocytosis stimulates additional macrophage activity, eventually resulting in an acidic environment. This in turn can result in degradation of the material before bone regeneration has taken place, leaving the defect unfilled.
The large primary particle size of Cerasorb® not only diminishes macrophage activity but provides increased granule strength, which is clearly apparent when handling the material as compared to other β-TCP formulations.
